Silk is one of the oldest fabrics in the world, and still one of the slowest to make. This is how ours comes to be.
Six steps
How mulberry silk is made
Nothing about silk is rushed. Follow one thread from the mulberry tree to your pillow.
-
Step 1
It starts with a mulberry tree
Mulberry silk comes from silkworms raised on one thing only: fresh mulberry leaves. That single diet is why the fibre comes out so even in color and so smooth.
One diet: mulberry leaves

Step 2
The cocoon
Each silkworm spins its cocoon from one continuous filament, hundreds of meters long and finer than a human hair. The longer and more unbroken that filament, the better the silk.

-
Step 3
Reeling the thread
The cocoons are softened in warm water so the filament can be unwound. Several filaments are drawn together into a single thread. Only the longest, most even fibres earn Grade 6A, the top of the silk grading scale.

Step 4
Weaving
The threads are woven in a charmeuse weave, where each thread floats over several others. That is what gives silk its glide. The more silk woven into each inch, the higher the momme and the heavier the fabric.

Step 5
Dyeing
The woven silk is dyed and washed until the color is deep and even. Our silk is tested to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which checks textiles for harmful substances.

Step 6
Cut and sewn
Finally the silk is cut and sewn into the piece you sleep on, with silk on both sides and a hidden zipper or an envelope closure to keep your pillow in place.

Why KINT silk is the better night's sleep
Most satin pillowcases are polyester, and cotton drags on hair and skin. Ours is pure mulberry silk. That's the difference.
Silk weight, decoded
19, 22 or 25 momme: which silk is for you?
Momme (mm) is how silk is weighed. The higher the number, the more silk is woven into every inch: denser and heavier. Lower numbers are lighter and more fluid. Every KINT weight is long-fibre mulberry silk made to last; the choice is about feel.
